چکیده

The diffraction-limited resolution of light focused by a lens was derived in 1873 by Ernst Abbe. Later in 1952, a method to reach sub-diffraction light spots was proposed by modulating the wavefront of the focused beam. In a related development, super-oscillating functions, that is, band-limited functions that locally oscillate faster than their highest Fourier component, were introduced and experimentally applied for super-resolution microscopy. Up till now, only simple Gaussian-like sub-diffraction spots were used. Here we show that the amplitude and phase profile of these sub-diffraction spots can be arbitrarily controlled. In particular, we utilize Hermite–Gauss, Laguerre–Gauss and Airy functions to structure super-oscillating beams with subdiffraction lobes. These structured beams are then used for high-resolution trapping and manipulation of nanometer-sized particles. The trapping potential provides unprecedented localization accuracy and stiffness, significantly exceeding those provided by standard diffraction-limited beams. Super-Oscillating Airy Pattern

We demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally the generation of a tunable two-dimensional superoscillating optical field through the interference of multiple Airy beams. The resulting pattern exhibits self-healing properties for a set of sub-Fourier diffraction spots with decreasing dimensions. Such spatial optical fields might find applications in microscopy, particle manipulation, and ...

Multiplexing structured illumination in spatial light modulators to achieve super-resolution Imágenes super-resueltas obtenidas mediante iluminación estructurada generada con moduladores espaciales de luz

We present some numerical results corresponding to a recently proposed structured illumination based set-up able to achieve resolution beyond the diffraction limit in 4f optical setup. The technique is based on the use of a liquid crystal display to multiplex the different linear phases which produce all the tilted plane waves at the same time. At the SLM plane constant phases are assigned to e...

Live Cell Imaging With Spatial Light Modulator-based Optical Sectioning Structured Illumination Microscopy

Structured illumination microscopy (SIM) is a method in fluorescence microscopy which works by acquiring a set of images using widefield detection. Each image in the set is made with a different position of an illumination mask, but with no mask in the detection path [1]. Subsequent image processing is used to produce an optically sectioned image (OS-SIM) [2 4], or an image with resolution beyo...

Superresolution Structured Illumination Microscopy (SR-SIM)

How Superresolution with ELYRA S.1 works The resolving power of a light microscope is limited to approximately 200nm in the lateral (XY) and 500nm in the axial (Z) direction. This so-called diffraction limit has been fi rst described by Ernst Abbe in 1873 (reference 1) and still holds true today. In simple terms, it posits that objects cannot be resolved with a conventional light microscope if ...

Extreme Ultraviolet Fractional Orbital Angular Momentum Beams from High Harmonic Generation

We investigate theoretically the generation of extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) beams carrying fractional orbital angular momentum. To this end, we drive high-order harmonic generation with infrared conical refraction (CR) beams. We show that the high-order harmonic beams emitted in the EUV/soft x-ray regime preserve the characteristic signatures of the driving beam, namely ringlike transverse intensi...
